More than 20,000 spectators gathered under floodlights in Pulwama on Wednesday as 10 teams took part in a night cricket tournament, with the packed stadium witnessing an evening of competitive cricket and celebration.
The toss was conducted at 8 p.m. by Pulwama SSP Tanushree, IPS.
MLA Pulwama Waheed Para, who unveiled the tournament trophy, said the event was an attempt to bring “light, happiness and hope” to a generation that had been hurt and aggrieved.
The tournament builds on a sporting initiative that drew national attention last year. A similar night cricket tournament was organised in Pulwama last year and was later mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
