Jammu, Aug 21: Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu, Prof D N Sharma has stated that a fact-finding committee, comprising senior officials and doctors, will probe into allegations of irregularities in recruitment.
The committee constituted on August 17, 2026, according to him, has been given 15-days to submit its report.
Prof Sharma has made this assertion, while pacifying the local youth led by Bajrang Dal, agitating outside the Institute in Vijaypur of Samba district on Friday, alleging large-scale irregularities in recruitment through outsourcing.
The agitating youth, who had a brief scuffle with the security personnel deployed there, were seeking a high-level probe into the recruitment by outsourcing agencies, allegedly against hefty amounts.
They also raised concern over, what they alleged, “poor medicare services” offered by the Institute, contradictory to its reputation.
“Besides these irregularities, we’re concerned that two women officials, including a doctor, of the Institute died in suspicious circumstances. The Institute did not come out with any statement. What is happening here? We want to know as we have given our lands gladly for this institute. Seemingly all is not well with it (AIIMS),” they alleged.
Later, the Executive Director, joined by other senior officials, asked the protesters to exercise restraint and wait till the committee, after looking into all allegations, submitted its report after a fortnight.
However, the protesting youth wanted formal order vis-à-vis the constitution of the committee or disclosure of the names of doctors or officials who were its members.
AIIMS Executive Director and other officials, however, rejected this demand, citing security reasons.
“This will compromise the security of members of the committee and also the integrity of the committee,” they reasoned.
One of the senior representatives of the Institute, while pacifying the agitating youth, stated that all inputs, including those about the committee, were shared with the ministry as well.
Few days ago, MLA Bani Rameshwar Singh too had levelled serious allegations about the functioning of AIIMS Jammu, claiming that cases from there (AIIMS Jammu) were being referred to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, Jammu.
“It speaks of the poor functioning of AIIMS Jammu. Then there are allegations of corruption in job recruitment. Local youth are being denied opportunities while jobs are being sold against money. I’ll raise these issues during the ensuing assembly session,” Singh had stated.
