Kulgam, Sep 19: A traffic police head constable was killed after being hit by a truck while performing his duty near Shampora Bridge in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Sabir Bhat, a resident of Kulpora village in the Srandoo area of Kulgam.
An official said Bhat was struck by a truck bearing registration number JK03Q-9011 near Shampora Bridge in Qazigund while performing his duty in the morning.
The speeding truck reportedly lost control and hit him, leaving him seriously injured. He later died on the spot, the official said.
Police reached the spot following the accident and took cognizance of the incident. Proceedings were initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
Later, DIG Traffic Kashmir, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP Kulgam and other senior police officers attended Bhat’s funeral procession at his native Kulpora village.
The officers joined the bereaved family, colleagues and local residents in paying their last respects to Bhat.
A large number of police personnel and locals participated in the funeral and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. The officers conveyed their condolences to the family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
