Srinagar, Sep 23: In a major push toward restoring complete peace and trust in the region, the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh, with the approval of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, today announced the withdrawal of criminal cases against twenty persons booked in connection with the tragic violence that erupted in Leh on September 24 last year.
The Lieutenant Governor Ladakh said that the decision has been taken in the larger interest of peace and social harmony in Ladakh.
“In the larger interest of peace, public tranquility, and social harmony in Ladakh, I have approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 20 individuals, related to the unfortunate violence that erupted in Leh on September 24 last year. Following a comprehensive review, the Ladakh police recommended a closure report for 20 individuals, in FIR no. 144/2005, registered at PS – Leh, under section 360 of the BNSS” the LG Saxena said.
This decision ensures that these 20 individuals move forward positively with their lives and careers. By prioritizing justice and healing over protracted litigation, the decision aims at fostering a more peaceful, united, and harmonious society in Ladakh, he said.
The LG Ladakh extended his sincere gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his constant guidance and sympathetic approach, in matters pertaining to the victims and their families.
Meanwhile, the move comes alongside a series of key confidence-building initiatives recently sanctioned by the UT administration to address long-standing local grievances. Earlier this month, the Lieutenant Governor sanctioned an ex-gratia relief package totaling ₹1.52 crore for the families of the four victims killed and the dozens injured in the clash.
