New Delhi, Mar 9: The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday issued fresh travel advisories for Indian nationals in Bahrain and Iran, urging them to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines in view of the evolving security situation in West Asia.
According to an advisory issued by the Embassy of India in Bahrain on March 9, all Indian nationals in Bahrain have been asked to exercise caution and stay alert.
The mission advised Indians to closely follow updates issued by the embassy and local authorities. It also clarified that the embassy in Bahrain is continuing to function normally and has activated 24×7 emergency helplines to assist Indian nationals.
The advisory said priority is being given to stranded Indian citizens, especially those travelling on tourist or short-term visas. To facilitate their return, the Embassy of India in Riyadh is coordinating with the Saudi authorities to obtain transit visas for Indians seeking to travel through Saudi Arabia.
As part of the standard operating procedure, travellers must have confirmed air tickets for onward travel to India and present a formal note issued by the embassy to Saudi immigration authorities at the border checkpoint. The transit visa will be valid for 72 to 96 hours, during which travellers must depart Saudi Arabia for India. Indians seeking transit visa facilitation have been asked to contact the embassy in Bahrain.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of India in Tehran issued a separate advisory cautioning Indian nationals against approaching any land border points in Iran without prior coordination with the embassy. The mission warned that Indian authorities may not be able to assist individuals who exit Iranian territory but are unable to enter a third country. It urged Indian nationals to seek explicit guidance from the embassy before attempting any cross-border travel.
The embassy in Tehran has also shared emergency helpline numbers and an email contact to assist Indian citizens in the country. The advisories come amid escalating tensions and security concerns across parts of West Asia, prompting Indian missions in several countries to urge nationals to remain cautious and stay in contact with diplomatic missions for updates.
