Srinagar, Sep 28: Truecaller has launched Truecaller Scam Checker, a new feature available on its app and website that brings together scam detection tools and community-reported information to help users assess potentially fraudulent messages, links and phone numbers.
The company said the new service is intended to extend its scam-protection capabilities beyond caller identification and spam blocking by providing users with a single destination to investigate suspected fraud.
Truecaller Scam Checker allows users to check suspicious web links for indications of malicious activity or phishing, look up phone numbers using Truecaller’s detection systems and community signals, and search Scamfeed reports for accounts of similar scams reported by other users.
Users can also describe a suspected scam in their own words and receive relevant results, including checks of phone numbers or links mentioned in their query as well as related community reports.
According to Truecaller, the service brings together three common elements found in suspicious messages—a phone number, a link and the accompanying narrative—allowing users to examine these elements through a single interface.
The company said it plans to expand the service with broader coverage of scam techniques, screenshot uploads for more detailed analysis, user authentication and other capabilities.
“People often sense that something is wrong, but they need a quick way to check before responding,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller. “Scam Checker brings together our detection capabilities and what our community has reported so that people can investigate a suspicious link, number or story in one place.”
