Srinagar, Sep 29: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said debates in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly should continue so that issues concerning people can be discussed and addressed.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Assembly proceedings, Abdullah said it was a positive development that members were raising questions and the government was responding to them.
“This is a very good thing. Members can speak and the government responds,” he said.
“Assemblies and Parliament are for discussion,” Abdullah said, expressing hope that the House would continue functioning in the same manner.
“May God keep it this way, that people keep discussing and keep doing better for the people,” he said.
During the brief interaction, he was also asked about his remarks on changes in Kashmir and whether the region had changed.
“Kashmir has changed very well,” Abdullah said, before being interrupted by further questions from reporters.
The exchange came amid continuing debate in the Assembly over the resolution seeking the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
