Kupwara, Sep 29: A day after the deadly Seemari road accident, in Karnah, two-year-old Tahir Idrees continues to weep and search for his mother, unaware that his parents will never return. Both were among the five people killed in the incident.
Tahir’s four elder sisters are also facing life without parental care after the devastating incident claimed five lives and left several others injured.
Idrees’s father was a labourer who worked to support his family and provide for his children. His sudden death has not only left the family grieving but has also taken away the primary breadwinner of the household.
At just two years of age, Tahir is too young to understand the magnitude of the loss. His mother and father, who were his primary sources of care, love and security, are no longer with him.
His eldest sister is only 11 years old, while his three other sisters are also too young to support Idrees. Their grandfather, who is physically disabled, is also part of the grieving family, making the circumstances particularly difficult for the household.
The children also have an uncle who lives separately in his own house. The family is now facing difficult days ahead following the sudden loss of both parents.
The tragedy has left the local community deeply shocked. Residents said the loss of both parents at such a young age would be extremely difficult for the children and expressed concern about their future.
“These children are very young and have suffered a loss that cannot be put into words. The two-year-old Tahir is continuously searching for his mother, which melts everyone’s heart when visiting the bereaved family,” Iftikhar Ahmad, a local, told Greater Kashmir.
Locals said Tahir and his sisters would require sustained support for their education, upbringing and basic needs. They appealed to the Omar Abdullah-led government to stand by these orphans during this difficult period.
The Seemari accident has left several families grieving, but the plight of the four sisters and their two-year-old brother has particularly left everyone devastated.
Pertinently, his nine-month-old sister, Hamza, was also killed in the incident.
