Baramulla, Sep 29: VARMULPEX-2026, the first-ever district-level philatelic exhibition of Baramulla Postal Division, was inaugurated on Monday at Kashmir University North Campus, Dalina, Baramulla, showcasing around 2,000 rare postage stamps and special covers.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Adam Mohi-U-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, in the presence of Bilal Ahmad Lone, Senior Professor, Kashmir University North Campus; G R Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla; and Syed Roouf Ahmad, Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla. The event has been organised by the Baramulla Postal Division.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohi-U-Din said philately enhances knowledge of history, culture, art and nature and provides an opportunity to remain connected with the country’s heritage.
He said that while the rapid growth of the internet and mobile phones had temporarily pushed philately into the background, the hobby continued to have educational value, particularly for students and young people.
He said the exhibition aims to familiarise children and the public with India’s culture, heritage, history and prominent personalities while encouraging philately as a meaningful hobby.
As part of the exhibition, a special cover on “Habba Khatoon Peak, Gurez Valley” was released by Mohi-U-Din.
VARMULPEX-2026 is being held from September 29 to 30 and features rare stamps and special covers depicting India’s history, culture, art and heritage.
The exhibition also showcases products under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative and GI-tagged products of Jammu and Kashmir that have been featured on special covers issued by India Post.
Various activities, including quiz and stamp-design competitions, are being organised for schoolchildren. A workshop and seminar on philately were also conducted on the opening day, with students from schools across Baramulla participating in the exhibition for the first time.
Welcoming participants, Syed Roouf Ahmad highlighted India Post’s role in serving common citizens through its extensive network, last-mile mail delivery and financial inclusion initiatives. He also outlined the development of the Baramulla Postal Division and its expanding citizen-centric services.
