Jammu, Sep 30: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office, sponsored exposure visits for 635 students from 25 BIS Standard Clubs during the three-day “Gatisheel Jammu & Kashmir 2.0” exhibition held in Jammu.
The initiative was aimed at providing students from schools across the Jammu region, including those from remote and hilly areas, an opportunity to gain practical exposure to government departments, public sector undertakings, government agencies and other participating organisations.
On the concluding day of the exhibition, 254 students from nine BIS Standard Clubs participated in the programme. The students also visited the Jammu and Kashmir Branch Laboratory (JKBL), where they were introduced to gold testing, XRF technology, assaying, parting and hallmarking.
BIS officials said the exposure visits were designed to supplement classroom learning with practical experience and help students understand the importance of standards, quality and safety in everyday life.
Scientist-C and Deputy Director, BIS JKBO, Saaqib Raahi visited the BIS stall during the day and interacted with visitors and students, briefing them about the Bureau’s standardisation, conformity assessment, consumer awareness and Standard Club activities.
Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma also visited the stall and appreciated BIS initiatives aimed at promoting quality consciousness among students.
Standard Promotion Officer Ashish Dwivedi and Consultant Sumit Kashyap briefed visitors about BIS certification, hallmarking, Indian Standards, conformity assessment and consumer-oriented initiatives.
The BIS stall featured information on the ISI Mark, hallmarking, BIS Care App and quality-conscious consumer practices. Officials also highlighted the role of standards in ensuring product quality, safety, reliability and sustainability.
During the three-day programme, students visited various exhibition stalls and interacted with representatives of government departments and other organisations, gaining exposure to products, technologies, services and developmental initiatives.
