33 West Bengal tourists injured in Ramban accident

Officials said the bus, WB39K-2929, was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu when it overturned in the Jammu-bound tube of the highway.

The bus, which has a seating capacity of 58 passengers, was reportedly carrying 55 passengers, mostly tourists from West Bengal.

Soon after receiving information about the accident, police and rescue teams reached the spot and evacuated the injured to District Hospital Ramban.

Hospital authorities said the injured comprised 29 male and four female, aged between 8 and 71 years.

Most of them were from West Bengal, while one passenger was from Nepal.

Nine injured passengers – Raj Kumar, 36, son of Ram Jan, Shabana Bibi, 28, wife of Sahil Khan, Sultan Khan, 8, son of Sohil Khan, Inna, 11, daughter of Sohil, Shadat Khan, 14, son of Sohil Khan, Alamgeer, 62, son of Fazal Haq, Manju Sheikh, 66, son of Muslim Sheikh, Alam Gir Khan, 52, son of Salam Khan all residents of West Bengal and Shanker, 50, son of Kartik Mandal of Nepal were referred to GMC Jammu for further treatment.

Sultan Sohil, 13, son of Kurban Sheikh, Lakubudin Sheikh, 63, son of Alai Sheikh, MD Rajeksa, 34, son of Muhammad Khuda Baksh, Tanua Bibi, 34, wife of Sheikh Palas, Kabir Sheikh, 34, son of Kaikubad Sheikh, Mohobat Sheikh, 41, son of Heera Sheikh, Afzal Sheikh, 35, son of Yassen Sheikh, Tumpa Bibi, 35, wife of Najai, Jameen Malik, 44, son of Kamal Malik, Siraj Sheikh, 55, son of Abid Sheikh, Muhammad Mohiuddin, 33, son of S K Anwar, Hukum Sheikh, 55, son of Muhammad Ali, Plash, 48, son of Mohammad Shah, Ilyas Sheikh, 39, son of Surasuddin, Santosh Mandol, 55, son of Anmol Rattan Mandol, Mirah Khan, 48, son of Moti Khan, Abdul Samad, 71, son of Muhammad Sultan, Gulam Mustafa, 46, son of Rajan Ali Sheikh, Muhaan Khatim, 8, son of Ghulam Mustafa, Shakir Sheikh, 41, son of Ziur Ud Din, Meena Bibi, 50, wife of Palundi, Firdous Sheikh, 38, son of Oli Sheikh, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, 32, son of Sheikh Mohi Rehman, and Sadam Hussain, 50, son of Hasaim Sheikh, all residents West Bengal were treated at District Hospital Ramban, where their condition was being monitored by doctors.

SSP Traffic National Highway Raja Adil Hameed, Additional SP Ramban Mujeeb Ur Rehman, ACR Ramban Shokat Hayat Mattoo and ADC Ramban Varunjeet Singh, DSP Headquarters Viqar Younus Batt monitored the rescue and evacuation operation.

Traffic movement in the Jammu-bound tube was disrupted for some time during the rescue operation.

The damaged bus was subsequently moved aside to facilitate the resumption of traffic.
