The action follows a representation submitted by Advocate Suheel Ahmad Mir, President, Bar Association Kangan, seeking establishment of an Additional Sessions Court at Kangan.

Vide communication No. Law-Jud/108/2021-10 dated July 16, 2025, the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs took up the representation and requested the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to furnish the requisite comments and details to enable the matter to be processed further by the competent authorities.

The Bar Association Kangan has now urged the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to direct the Registrar General to furnish the sought comments and details to the Law Department without further delay.

The Association said the demand assumes significance in view of the vast geographical spread of Kangan Sub-Division, the volume of litigation and difficulties faced by litigants from far-flung and remote areas in accessing existing judicial infrastructure.

It urged that the information sought by the Law Department be furnished expeditiously so that the competent authorities can take the matter forward and consider the demand in the larger interest of access to justice and convenience of litigants.

The July 16, 2025 communication represents a procedural step in the consideration of the demand, with the Law Department seeking the High Court’s comments and details before proceeding further.

The Bar Association expressed hope that the requisite response would be furnished at the earliest, enabling the demand for an Additional Sessions Court at Kangan to be considered at the appropriate level.
