Shopian, Oct 1: Residents of south Kashmir’s Shopian town have expressed concern over frequent power outages over the past few days, saying erratic electricity supply is causing inconvenience to households and disrupting their daily activities as temperatures begin to drop.
Residents said the frequent power cuts had added to their difficulties, with many questioning the electricity department’s preparedness ahead of the winter season, when demand for electricity typically rises.
“Winter has not even arrived, and the Power Development Department has already started playing hide-and-seek with electricity,” said Javed Ahmad, a resident of Shopian.
He said frequent interruptions in power supply were making it difficult for residents to carry out their routine activities and raised concerns about the situation worsening during the winter months.
“People expect a reliable electricity supply, particularly as the weather gets colder. But the frequent cuts have become a source of inconvenience,” he said.
Several residents said the erratic supply was affecting household work and other daily activities. They said uninterrupted electricity was particularly important as the Valley moved towards the colder months, when residents increasingly rely on electrical appliances for heating and other essential needs.
Residents also expressed concern that prolonged or repeated outages could add to their difficulties during the winter, when temperatures in south Kashmir often fall considerably.
They urged the concerned authorities to look into the frequent disruptions and ensure a more reliable electricity supply to the town.
“People understand that there may be technical problems, but the department should address them promptly and inform consumers about any scheduled cuts,” another resident said.
The residents called on the Power Development Department to take necessary measures to improve the supply before the onset of winter and prevent recurring outages from becoming a daily problem.
