Srinagar, Oct 2: Abdul Samad once again showed his ability to absorb pressure and play a fighting innings, scoring a valuable 57 off 88 balls to help Jammu and Kashmir recover from early trouble against Rest of India in the Irani Cup at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.
Coming to the crease with J&K in deep trouble at 37 for four, Samad joined skipper Paras Dogra at the crease with the hosts needing a substantial partnership to revive their innings.
The duo responded with a crucial 101-run stand, taking J&K past the 130-run mark and providing the foundation for a competitive first innings.
Samad played a measured knock, showing patience during the rebuilding phase before taking on the Rest of India bowlers when opportunities came his way. His 88-ball innings included 5 fours and 1 six.
The partnership with Dogra was particularly important, as J&K had lost four wickets for just 37 runs after resuming their innings at 21 for two.
Samad eventually fell after making 57, with J&K moving into a more stable position. Dogra continued to anchor the innings and went on to make a fighting 75.
Samad’s contribution, although overshadowed by Dogra’s anchoring knock and Nasir’s late assault, proved vital in changing the course of J&K’s innings after the early collapse.
