SDM Ghagwal to probe into youth’s death in Samba accident

Jammu, Oct 4: Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ghagwal will probe into the circumstances leading to the death of a youth in a road accident near Diani area in Samba district on September 29, 2026.

As per an official statement, the SDM Ghagwal will conduct a fair, impartial and independent inquiry into the incident to ascertain the actual cause and circumstances leading to the accident; condition of the road and compliance to the relevant safety, traffic norms. He will look into all available evidence and other aspects related to negligence, deficiency or lapse on the part of any individual, agency or department, leading to accident.

SDM Ghagwal has sought public cooperation, stating that any person, having any information about the incident; eye witness account; documentary evidence; photograph or video or any other relevant information, should come forward and submit the same to him.

The death of youth identified as Chetan Kumar, son of Anchal Das, resident of Jatwal in Ghagwal tehsil, in a road accident involving a truck had triggered protest by his family and relatives, joined by the locals, who had blocked the National Highway at Jatwal in Samba on September 30, 2026, raising slogans against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Samba district administration.

The protesters’ allegation was that poor road conditions were causing frequent accidents. They demanded accountability, appropriate action and concrete measures to prevent further mishaps.

Senior Police officers, while pacifying the protesters, had informed that the accused was arrested, the truck was also seized and the NHAI authorities were also conveyed the people’s concerns.
