Srinagar, Oct 13: Heavy overcast conditions and bad light with rain brought an early halt to proceedings on Day 3 of the Ranji Trophy match between Jammu and Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh, with the defending champions facing an uphill task.

Madhya Pradesh reached 151 for five in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 227 runs, with skipper Shubham Sharma unbeaten on 51 when play was stopped.

Resuming Day 3 at 59 for four, Madhya Pradesh added 92 runs while losing one wicket during the curtailed session. J&K managed just one breakthrough through Rohit Sharma, who dismissed a batter as the hosts struggled to make further inroads.

With the visitors firmly in control and Shubham Sharma holding one end, J&K will need quick wickets when play resumes to prevent Madhya Pradesh from setting a daunting target.
