Srinagar, Oct 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association has urged the government to clear long-pending placement and regularisation cases of engineers and expedite the recruitment of Junior Engineers (Mechanical), citing cadre stagnation and shortages of technical manpower in key departments.
The Association said placement cases at various levels, including Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer, had remained pending for a prolonged period, affecting career progression and cadre management.
It has also sought the expansion of the Mechanical Engineering cadre in the Jal Shakti Department, Housing and Urban Development Department and other departments, saying adequate technical manpower was essential for efficient departmental functioning and public service delivery.
The Association expressed concern over the delay in the recruitment of Junior Engineers (Mechanical) through the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), which it said had been pending for nearly a year.
The delay, it said, had aggravated staff shortages and affected engineering capacity at the ground level. It urged the government to expedite the recruitment process to fill vacant positions and strengthen departmental operations.
Association president Er Ferdous Ahad Bhat has appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister for Roads and Buildings Surinder Choudhary and Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department, Anil Kumar Singh, to intervene and issue directions for the time-bound resolution of the pending issues.
Bhat said timely placements, regularisation of eligible engineers, expansion of the Mechanical Engineering cadre and completion of recruitment were necessary to ensure career progression, strengthen departmental capacity and improve public service delivery.
The Association has urged the concerned authorities to take up the issues on priority and provide a time-bound resolution, while expressing its willingness to engage constructively with the government to address the grievances of engineering professionals.
