Srinagar, Oct 5: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two persons in connection with an alleged employment fraud in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, where job aspirants were reportedly duped through fabricated appointment letters and false promises of government employment.

SSP Budgam Hariprasad K.K., while addressing a press conference at Beerwah on Monday, said the accused have been identified as Advocate Jehangir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Ratsun, Beerwah, and Firdous Nabi of Zabgul, Beerwah, who identifies himself as chairman of the Jammu Kashmir People’s Front (JKPF).

Both accused are presently being questioned at Police Station Beerwah following formal complaints, the SSP said, adding that more arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.

According to police, the accused allegedly targeted job aspirants from different parts of Budgam by issuing fabricated appointment letters and assuring them of lucrative government employment.

A significant breakthrough in the investigation came with the recovery of an allegedly forged official communication bearing fake Ministry of Home Affairs stamps. The document was purportedly issued in the name of then Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and addressed to J&K Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat.

Police said the fabricated communication allegedly directed the appointment of 10 youths from different villages of Budgam as Special Police Officers (SPOs) in the J&K Police, purportedly on the directions of the Union Ministry.

The recovery of the document has become a key part of the investigation as police seek to establish how the forged communication was prepared, circulated and allegedly used to convince job seekers of the authenticity of the recruitment claims.

So far, three FIRs have been registered in connection with the alleged fraud, including FIR Nos. 183 and 188 at Police Station Beerwah. A Zero FIR was also registered at Beerwah and subsequently transferred to Police Station Budgam, the SSP said.

Police are examining the complaints received from alleged victims and are also investigating whether the accused were operating as part of a larger network involved in fake recruitment and fraudulent placement schemes.

The investigation is being conducted by a police team headed by SHO Beerwah Muddasir Nazir under the supervision of SSP Budgam Hariprasad K.K.

The SSP said the police were verifying the allegations and examining the evidence recovered during the investigation. Further arrests and legal action are expected depending on the probe’s findings.
