New Delhi, Mar 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep grief over a tragic road accident in Markapuram district of Andhra Pradesh, which left several people dead and injured.
In a message posted by the Prime Minister’s Office on X, the Prime Minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. “The mishap in Markapuram district, Andhra Pradesh, is tragic. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” the post said.
“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.” According to Press Trust of India, at least 14 people were killed and 23 others injured when a private bus collided with a tipper truck and caught fire on Thursday. Many passengers were trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Markapuram Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju said, “Fourteen people died in the accident, and 23 injured persons have been shifted to the hospital, including the driver. Efforts are on to gather complete details of the incident.” The bus, carrying around 35 passengers, was travelling from Jagityal in Telangana to Kaligiri in Nellore district when the accident occurred. The tipper driver also sustained injuries and has been hospitalised. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound shock over the loss of lives and spoke to officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured. He also directed authorities to conduct a detailed inquiry into the cause of the accident and submit a report.
