Srinagar, Mar 28: In a major push to hydropower development in J&K, NHPC Limited and J&K State Power Development Corporation Limited signed an implementation agreement for two key hydroelectric projects—Uri-I Stage-II (240 MW) and Dulhasti Stage-II (260 MW).
The agreement was formalised in Jammu on March 27, 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening the Union Territory’s power generation capacity. Both projects will be developed by NHPC on a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis for a period of 40 years.
The agreement was signed by Rahul Yadav, Managing Director of JKSPDCL, and Anish Gouraha, Executive Director of NHPC, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations. Among those present were Pankaj Gupta, General Manager (E), SBD&C Division, NHPC Corporate Office, and Pankaj Vashishth, General Manager (C), Jammu Regional Office.
With a combined installed capacity of 500 MW, the two projects are expected to significantly boost clean energy generation in the region. Officials said the projects will contribute to India’s renewable energy targets while enhancing reliable power supply in J&K.
The development also reflects ongoing efforts to harness the Union Territory’s vast hydropower potential and reduce dependence on external power sources.
Once completed, the projects are expected to play a key role in meeting the growing electricity demand in the region while supporting sustainable energy goals.
