New Delhi, Mar 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched development projects worth Rs 5,600 crore during a visit to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, aimed at boosting infrastructure, energy access and connectivity in the state. Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi said the initiatives would strengthen the economy and create employment. “These projects will boost energy access, connectivity and create thousands of jobs for the youth of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a Rs 3,700-crore City Gas Distribution Network for Nilgiris and Erode by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, which will provide Piped Natural Gas to around nine lakh households.

He said the environmental impact of the project would be comparable to planting four crore trees over eight years. He also dedicated the Indian Oil Lube Blending Plant Chennai of Indian Oil Corporation to the nation, saying the facility would boost domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

PM Modi also inaugurated 370 km of rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and flagged off new train services connecting several cities across the state. He said the government remains committed to accelerating development in Tamil Nadu.
