New Delhi, Mar 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas, highlighting the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana in making affordable medicines available to people across the country.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medicines at affordable prices. He noted that through thousands of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, many families are saving significantly on healthcare expenses while receiving proper treatment.
“On #JanAushadhiDiwas2026, my best wishes to all those who have been positively impacted by the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medicines at affordable prices. Through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, countless families are saving on healthcare expenses and receiving proper treatment,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Describing the programme as a historic initiative of the government, the Prime Minister said it has helped reduce the financial burden of medicines on poor families while also promoting awareness about the use of generic medicines. At present, around 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are functioning across the country, providing affordable and easily accessible medicines to the poor and needy. According to official estimates, the scheme has helped citizens save more than Rs 40,000 crore on medicine costs.
