Srinagar, Mar 13: Truecaller has launched a new feature called Family Protection in India, aimed at safeguarding households from the growing threat of online scams such as impersonation fraud, digital arrest scams and AI voice cloning.
The company said the feature creates a “Safety Circle” that allows up to five family members to stay protected under a shared digital security system. The rollout in India follows its earlier introduction in countries including Sweden, Chile, Malaysia and Kenya.
According to the company, the feature is designed to protect families—particularly elderly members—from increasingly sophisticated phone-based scams. It allows one designated member, often the most tech-savvy person in the household, to manage the digital safety of the group.
The feature provides real-time fraud alerts and a remote call hang-up option that enables the administrator to disconnect suspicious calls for any member of the group. It also includes shared block lists, customizable security levels and a dashboard that allows monitoring of device safety settings across both Android and iOS devices.
“Just knowing who is calling is no longer enough. The real question today is whether the call is safe to answer,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala.
