New Delhi, May 11: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is expected to visit to attend the BRICS ministerial meeting, which will be held in New Delhi from May 14 to 15, according to reports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to New Delhi assumes considerable significance as it will provide him an opportunity to explain Tehran’s position on the strategic Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. The visit comes at a time when rising tensions in West Asia have created serious concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security.
During his interactions with BRICS foreign ministers, Araghchi is also expected to brief them on Iran’s fresh proposal submitted to Washington for concluding a comprehensive peace agreement. The proposal reportedly includes measures relating to maritime security, easing of sanctions, restoration of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and a broader framework for regional stability and future negotiations.
New Delhi has demanded lifting of blockade and favour free navigation of aships and vessels through the Strait of Hormuz . For stability in the Strait of Hormuz remains crucial for its energy security and trade interests. New Delhi has already intensified diplomatic engagement with Tehran to ensure the safe movement of Indian merchant vessels and uninterrupted energy supplies through the sensitive waterway.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, is expected to attend BRICS-related. India assumed the BRICS Chairmanship on January 1, marking the fourth time New Delhi has led the bloc after previously hosting summits in 2012, 2016 and 2021.
According to sources aware of the matter, Iranian Foreign Minister will be arriving in New Delhi on Wednesday and will be departing on Friday or on Saturday.
