The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the successful breakthrough of the Zojila Tunnel, describing it as a historic milestone that brings the long-cherished dream of all-weather connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh significantly closer to reality.
The Chamber stated that the completion of the excavation and connection of both ends of the tunnel marks a defining moment in the infrastructure development of the region and is expected to transform trade, tourism, logistics, and economic activity across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
KCCI noted that the tunnel will ensure year-round connectivity across the strategically important Zojila Pass, substantially reducing travel time and facilitating the uninterrupted movement of people, goods, and essential supplies. The project is also expected to boost tourism, improve market access for horticultural and handicraft products, attract investments, and generate new employment opportunities.
In this regard, KCCI has written to Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister for Road Transport & Highways, conveying its congratulations and appreciation for the successful breakthrough of the tunnel. In its communication, the Chamber described the achievement as a landmark engineering feat and acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in advancing critical infrastructure projects in the Himalayan region.
The Chamber further highlighted that the ongoing development of highways, tunnels, and associated transport infrastructure under the Ministry’s leadership is laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and regional integration. KCCI expressed confidence that the completion of the Zojila Tunnel and allied connectivity projects will usher in a new era of prosperity, enhanced trade, and sustainable development for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
KCCI also placed on record its appreciation for the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir Government’s sustained focus on strengthening connectivity in the region and reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at promoting economic development through world-class infrastructure.
