Awantipora, Aug 19: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), on Wednesday began a two-day engagement and lively induction programme for students of the fresh Master’s and BA FYUGP batches.
The programme, being held on Aug. 19 and 20, aims to familiarise students with the department’s academic environment, faculty, facilities and practical learning opportunities.
Head DJMC Dr. Rabia Noor welcomed the students and outlined the department’s academic programmes, facilities and media platforms, including Times Echo, Pesh Kadam, IUST Newsletter and Naad.
Dean Outreach and Associate Professor Dr. Ruheela Hassan spoke about the department’s inception and the roles undertaken by its faculty. Assistant Professors Dr. Sayar Mir and Dr. Haifaa Mohammad Ahsan highlighted career opportunities in media and the contemporary relevance of journalism and mass communication.
Current students and scholars also interacted with the freshers and shared their experiences. Copies of Times Echo were distributed among the students.
The programme included visits to the DJMC Library, Community Radio Station, Multimedia Studio and iMac Media Lab, besides Rumi Library and the athletic synthetic track.
A departmental profile video showcasing the department’s academic, creative and outreach activities was also screened.
The induction programme will continue on Thursday with further sessions for the new students.
