Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday met Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi and discussed ways to deepen cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan in investment, semiconductors, advanced technology, skill development, employment and tourism.
CM Yogi said Uttar Pradesh was ready to take its economic and industrial ties with Japan to new heights, offering opportunities for Japanese companies ranging from MSMEs to large industries. He highlighted the state’s expanding infrastructure, connectivity, industrial base and large domestic market.
Semiconductor cooperation figured prominently in the discussions. The Japanese side said semiconductors had been identified as one of the five priority areas of India-Japan economic security cooperation during Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi’s visit to India in July. A Japanese industry delegation is scheduled to visit Semicon India and HCL Technologies in mid-September.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of Japanese companies exploring semiconductor opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi said the combination of Japan’s technological expertise and UP’s industrial capabilities could create significant opportunities in the sector.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the emerging Japan City in Noida and the presence of companies such as Yamaha, Denso, NTT DATA, Toyo Ink and Panasonic in the state. He said the government would work with JETRO and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate further Japanese investment.
Human resource development was another key area. The two sides discussed skill centres to train young people in line with the requirements of Japanese industries and create employment opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and nursing care.
Tourism cooperation was also discussed, with Yogi agreeing to Uttar Pradesh’s participation in Tourism Expo Japan 2026 in September. The state plans to showcase its Buddhist, spiritual, cultural and heritage destinations to Japanese tourists.
The meeting comes as a delegation of more than 200 Japanese industry representatives visits Uttar Pradesh. Several MoUs have been signed following their interactions with the state government, with the proposed investments expected to generate around 10,000 jobs.
