Member of Parliament from the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency Mian Altaf Ahmad reviewed the progress of development and public welfare projects in Anantnag district and announced an additional Rs 50 lakh for the construction of a public Sarai at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag.
The additional allocation takes the total MPLAD funding for the project to Rs 2 crore, including the Rs 1.5 crore sanctioned earlier.
During the review meeting, Mian Altaf stressed the need to strengthen public infrastructure and improve delivery of essential services across South Kashmir, with healthcare and drinking water among the priority sectors.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work on the Sarai project at GMC Anantnag and directed the executing agencies to expedite construction while maintaining quality standards.
The Sarai is intended to provide shelter for attendants and family members accompanying patients at the tertiary healthcare facility, particularly those travelling from remote and rural areas of South Kashmir.
The MP also reviewed the status of the Kandiwara water supply scheme and asked the Jal Shakti Department and other concerned agencies to complete the project without further delay.
He said the scheme had been under execution for several years and its delay had caused hardship to residents facing drinking water shortages. Officials informed the meeting that the remaining work would be completed within 15 to 20 days.
Mian Altaf further directed the concerned departments to expedite the installation of hand pumps in various parts of Anantnag for which funds have already been sanctioned under the MPLAD scheme.
He also asked the Public Works Department to accelerate road development works across the district.
