Kupwara, Sep 23: Residents of Yemlar village in the Rajwar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have complained of poor basic amenities, alleging that authorities have failed to address their long-pending grievances.
Residents said the nearly 3-km road connecting the village with Zachaldara was dotted with potholes at several places, causing inconvenience to commuters.
They said the road was in poor condition despite repeated requests to the concerned department for repairs and macadamisation.
“We have brought this issue to the notice of the concerned department numerous times. Every time, we are told that macadamisation has been kept in the plan, but by the end of the year, we are given a different response,” a local resident said.
The residents also complained of erratic power supply, saying unscheduled power cuts had made life difficult despite consumers paying their electricity bills regularly.
They also questioned the increase in power tariffs amid what they described as inconsistent electricity supply.
The shortage of potable water is another major concern, residents said.
According to them, the water pipeline laid in the village decades ago has been damaged, leaving many households without regular tap water. Only some households, they said, were receiving water.
The residents also questioned why the village had not been covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide functional household tap connections in rural areas.
They appealed to Handwara MLA SajadGani Lone to intervene and take up the issues with the concerned departments for their early resolution.
