The residents of Yemlar in Zachaldara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are facing severe hardships due to the poor condition of the road leading to their village.
The residents said that the 3 km road of their village which takes off from Zachaldara was dotted with potholes on several spots due to which commuters were suffering badly. The residents said that the condition of the road was severely pathetic yet the concerned department was “watching their miseries as mute spectators”.
Locals said they have repeatedly appealed to the administration to macadamize the road, but their pleas have gone unheard. “In winter, the situation becomes even worse and more often we are forced to carry patients on makeshift cots due to the unavailability of transport,” Noor Mohammad a local told Greater Kashmir.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of the concerned department numerous times but every time we are being told that macadamization of our road has been kept in the plan but at the end of the year, a different tale emerges at the hands of concerned officials,” a local told Greater Kashmir.
The residents have urged MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone to take immediate steps for repair and macadamization of the road to prevent further sufferings. They hope that authorities will prioritize this vital infrastructure need and bring much-needed relief to the area.
