Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), manufacturer of BharatBenz trucks and buses, on Wednesday inaugurated a new service centre operated by PPS Trucking in Phey village of Leh district, Ladakh.
Located at an altitude of approximately 11,550 feet above sea level, the facility is being positioned by the company as India’s highest-altitude commercial vehicle service facility.
Spread over 20,000 square feet along NH-1 on the Leh-Srinagar-Uri Highway, the workshop will cater to commercial vehicles engaged in stone-crusher operations, road construction in border areas by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and transportation of communication tower infrastructure.
The strategically located facility is expected to serve customers across a wide area, including Kargil, Drass and areas near the India-China border.
DICV said customers operating in Ladakh and adjoining regions previously had to travel long distances to access authorised service facilities and genuine spare parts, often resulting in longer vehicle downtime and higher operating costs.
The new facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic systems, modern tools and genuine BharatBenz spare parts. It will also provide 24×7 roadside assistance and has three fully equipped service bays, with an annual servicing capacity of more than 1,400 vehicles.
Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said the facility would strengthen aftersales support for customers operating in the challenging terrain and weather conditions of Ladakh and adjoining border regions.
“With the inauguration of this new service and spare parts facility, we are bringing world-class aftersales support closer to our customers, ensuring faster repairs, easy access to genuine parts, and expert technical assistance,” he said.
Rajiv Sanghvi, Managing Director, PPS Trucking, said the new facility would provide timely and reliable service to customers operating in one of the country’s most difficult terrains.
The company said the expansion was aimed at reducing vehicle downtime, improving access to technical support and spare parts, and enhancing vehicle productivity in the region.
