Srinagar, Sep 22: PDP MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra on Tuesday raised concerns over restrictions and stoppages faced by commuters travelling on the national highway in south Kashmir, saying the practice was creating a sense of discrimination among common people.
Speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Parra said the government should take up the matter with the Unified Headquarters.
“Travelling on the national highway in south Kashmir gives a sense of discrimination to common people. The government should take up the matter with the Unified High Command,” Parra said.
He said commuters were being stopped on a daily basis for several minutes, causing inconvenience to the public.
“People are stopped every day for 10 to 15 minutes,” he said.
Parra also said that the actions taken after a security incident should not result in the humiliation of ordinary people.
“Just one attack cannot give a sense of discrimination and humiliate the common people of Kashmir,” the PDP legislator said.
His remarks came during the ongoing autumn session of the J&K Legislative Assembly, where members have been raising issues concerning public inconvenience and security-related restrictions.
