Srinagar, Sep 21: President of the All J&K Shia Association and General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, Imran Reza Ansari, on Monday appealed to legislators not to lose “precious Assembly time” to protests that force the House to adjourn, saying that the J&K Assembly has only a few sitting days.
Ansari said the J&K Assembly has only a few sitting days, with the next session likely to be held after a gap of five or six months and urged legislators to make the most of the limited time available.
“Politicians have the whole year to accuse each other, play victim cards and score brownie points. Please don’t let precious Assembly time be lost to protests that force the House to adjourn,” the PC leader said.
He requested the CM Omar Abdullah, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather and all MLAs to let democracy flourish through debate, questions and accountability.
Counting the problems being faced by the people of J&K, Ansari said people were suffering from issues such ase reservation, job outsourcing, pending recruitment, interns/ PG/ SKUAST students stipends, daily wagers, contractual employees, unemployment, drug addiction, rehabilitation, youth mental health, education, sports, healthcare, water shortages, electricity, roads, public transport, entrepreneurship, tourism, horticulture, pollution and dying water bodies and are going from door to door for solutions.
“Many of these issues do not require statehood. They require decisions, lawful action, timelines and accountability. The government has powers today; the Assembly has the authority to question it today,” Ansari said, adding that “the youth are watching. The educated people of J&K are watching. The unemployed and hopeless are watching.”
“They don’t want another day of political point-scoring they want their representatives to make these few days count,” he added.
He said today it might be BJP protesting and tomorrow it might be someone else. However, The House should not become a place where every protest ends in an adjournment.
