The Group of Concerned Citizens, J&K (GCC) has asked the public at large to extend fullest support to Census staff in connection with Census 2027.
Noting that, as per reports, house-listing part is over with “100% digital data collection” and Population Enumeration scheduled for September 2026 in areas that remain snow- bound or otherwise inaccessible in winter , the Group has asked for disaggregated data of progress in different phases of Census 2027 being placed in the public domain.
“That would also help adding area-specific focus as and when occasioned” In a statement issued here, GCC referred to complaints of some houses in some areas having been left out or not properly documented.” Then there are changes in templates in relation to previous Census Operations. For instance , what used to be ” Pucca/ Kacha or Partially Pucca / Kacha ” is replaced by “Good, Liveable and Deteriorated”.
Likewise, housing data that used to be captured in 33 columns under 10 Headers is now condensed into two–house identification and family composition. There is a widely felt need for reinforced capacity building of Enumerators and other field staff, on the one end, and a more effective oversight mechanism, on the other , to rule out any gaps including double listing ” .
The GCC has appealed the public at large to appreciate that Census is a “most important national database relied upon across several areas including planning and development , political representation , delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies, reservation of SC/ST Parliamentary/Assembly Constituencies as also reservation in Urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions, allocation of funds to states/UTs etc.
“The ongoing Census Operations would therefore deserve all-out support and co-operation from all sections of society , including public figures and political Parties of all hue without exception.”
