Jammu, Oct 12: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday asserted that the government was assessing losses and damages to properties during flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Jammu on October 11, 2026.
Choudhary, while addressing media here, assured that all the affected people would be compensated as early as possible as the government had sought reports vis-à-vis losses from the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner.
“We know that the people have suffered damages. Rains have caused extensive damage in residential areas besides damaging public infrastructure. The government is coordinating with the concerned authorities including the DC and JMC Commissioner to assess losses so that losses can be compensated as the earliest possible and restoration work can also be started without delay,” Choudhary accompanied by NC provincial president Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, said.
The Deputy Chief Minister asserted that the government was committed to address the difficulties confronted by people and restore normalcy in the flood affected areas.
He also expressed concern over the reports of a woman missing in flash floods in Raipur Domana and prayed for her safe recovery.
Meanwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma on Monday visited areas across his Jammu North assembly constituency and assessed the damage caused by flash floods due to heavy rainfall on October 11, 2026.
Accompanied by concerned officials, Sham Lal visited the affected localities, interacted with residents and listened to their concerns and grievances, assuring them of every possible assistance in addressing the difficulties caused by the flash floods.
During the visit, Sharma issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned officials to assess the extent of damage caused by the flash floods and identify the restoration measures required in the affected areas. He stressed that the assessment should be completed promptly and that necessary remedial works should be undertaken on priority.

He apprised them of the ground situation and urged them to ensure effective coordination among the concerned departments for comprehensive restoration of the flash flood-affected areas.
