Srinagar, Sep 27: Grand Mufti of Jammu & Kashmir Naser Ul Islam on Sunday urged the Omar Abdullah-led government to initiate a time-bound review and take a humane, lawful and practical decision on the regularisation of eligible daily wagers.
The Grand Mufti “earnestly appealed” to the J&K LG and the CM to act with compassion and urgency on the long-pending issue of daily wagers’ regularisation.
“Thousands of these workers have devoted years of their lives to government departments, while many have now crossed the maximum age for regular recruitment. They and their families are facing immense financial hardship, uncertainty and daily distress,” Naser Ul Islam said on his Facebook handle.
At a time when Jammu & Kashmir is striving for a crime-free, drug-free and socially secure society, the Grand Mufti said, “economic insecurity and prolonged unemployment among our people cannot be overlooked.”
The Grand Mufti said that the government must also ensure that existing vacancies are identified and advertised regularly and that shortages of staff in departments are addressed through a transparent recruitment process.
“I therefore call upon the Government to initiate a time-bound review and take a humane, lawful and practical decision on the regularisation of eligible Daily Wagers, giving due consideration to their years of service and present circumstances,” Naser Ul Islam said while concluding his post on his Facebook account.
