The Jammu & Kashmir Hoteliers Club (JKHC) organised a plantation drive in Gulmarg, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable tourism and responsible hospitality.
The drive was led by Gulmarg MLA Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah in the presence of Director Tourism Kashmir Syed Qamar Sajjad, Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) Tariq Hussain Naik, Assistant Director Tourism Jahid Azad, Divisional Forest Officer Feroz Ahmad, tourism officials, members of the Hoteliers Club and local stakeholders. Schoolchildren also participated in the programme, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and ecological responsibility.
Speaking on the occasion, JKHC Honorary Secretary General Abdul Wahid Malik said the Club would organise a series of plantation and environmental conservation drives across Jammu and Kashmir in the coming months.
He said the hospitality sector has a collective responsibility to protect Kashmir’s fragile ecosystem and contribute towards sustainable development.
Honorary Joint Secretary Mukhtar Ahmad Shah said the plantation campaigns would be expanded under the Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with the participation of hotels, tourism stakeholders, educational institutions and local communities.
The Club also announced plans to organise horse riding and horse polo promotion events in Gulmarg later this month as part of efforts to preserve the hill resort’s heritage and revive its historic association with equestrian sports. The initiatives, it said, are intended to support local stakeholders, encourage youth participation and strengthen heritage tourism.
Reiterating its commitment to sustainable tourism, the Jammu & Kashmir Hoteliers Club said it would continue to work in coordination with the Tourism Department, Gulmarg Development Authority, Forest Department and other stakeholders to promote environmental conservation and community-based initiatives across the Union Territory.
