Srinagar, Oct 16: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra has written to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, seeking his intervention and a time-bound inquiry into allegations of misconduct involving a senior IAS officer and JKAS officer Beenish Wani during a Mission YUVA review meeting on October 14.
In a letter dated October 16, Karra said a video circulating publicly had raised serious concerns over the language allegedly used by the senior IAS officer towards Wani, as well as reported directions to initiate action against her.
Karra also expressed concern over reported remarks concerning the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), describing it as a vital constitutional institution. He said any attempt to undermine its credibility or erode public confidence in its functioning warranted serious examination.
Seeking an impartial investigation, the JKPCC chief urged the Lieutenant Governor to order a fair and time-bound inquiry to establish the facts, including an examination of the complete audio and video recording of the meeting, and determine whether any service rules or conduct standards had been violated.
He further demanded that appropriate action be taken if the allegations were substantiated, irrespective of the officer’s rank or position.
Karra also stressed the need to protect Wani from any potential victimisation or retaliatory action, saying her professional interests must be safeguarded and any decisions concerning her service taken strictly on merit and in accordance with established rules.
While acknowledging the demanding circumstances in which the administration operates, Karra said accountability and mutual respect were essential to maintaining officers’ morale and preserving the credibility of the administration across Jammu and Kashmir.
