A delegation of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by its president Mohammad Yaseen Khan, on Tuesday called on newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar Singh and discussed issues concerning the trade community across the Valley.
The delegation congratulated Singh on assuming charge as IGP Kashmir and expressed hope that his experience and leadership would further strengthen police-public coordination.
The meeting focused on traffic management, parking, policing, movement of commercial vehicles and timely resolution of traders’ grievances at the district level.
Representatives of various district trade bodies apprised the IGP of local issues affecting traders and business establishments and stressed the need for regular coordination between the police and the trading community.
The IGP gave a patient hearing to the delegation and, according to KTMF, issued on-the-spot directions on several issues. He also directed the concerned district SSPs to examine and address the grievances raised by traders from their respective areas.
KTMF senior member Javaid Ahmad Zargar, representing the Jamia Masjid and Downtown Srinagar area, raised the long-pending demand for a fire station near Jamia Masjid, citing the congestion in the area and the need for an effective emergency response mechanism.
Zargar also highlighted the shortage of adequate parking facilities in Downtown Srinagar, saying traffic and parking difficulties continue to affect traders, residents and visitors.
KTMF president Mohammad Yaseen Khan described the interaction as constructive and appreciated the IGP’s prompt response to the issues raised by the delegation.
He said traders were important stakeholders in maintaining a peaceful and orderly commercial environment and stressed that regular interaction between police and trade bodies could help resolve genuine issues before they escalate.
The delegation included Qazi Tauseef, Bashir Ahmad Rather, Javaid Ahmad Zargar, president Jamia Traders Federation; Ghulam Hassan Parra, president Traders Federation Ganderbal; Mohammad Usman Turray, senior vice president Traders Federation Shopian; Mohammad Iqbal Dhobi, acting president Traders Federation Kulgam; Rouf Ahmad Reshi, general secretary Traders Federation Pulwama; Nasir Bashir, president Traders Federation Pattan; and Asif Ahmad, president Traders Federation Tangmarg.
KTMF assured the police administration of continued cooperation in matters concerning public safety, traffic management, peace and a conducive environment for trade and commerce.
