Srinagar, Oct 4: The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026, describing it as an important step towards simplifying business regulations, reducing procedural hurdles and creating a more conducive environment for trade and commerce.
The Bill was passed by the J&K Legislative Assembly on September 29, 2026.
KTMF said traders, retailers and small business owners have long faced challenges arising from complicated documentation, multiple permissions, repeated inspections and delays in obtaining clearances. It said the shift towards rule-based governance and time-bound approvals could help address these difficulties and enable businesses to focus on growth, investment and employment generation.
KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan said a simplified, transparent and accountable regulatory system was essential for strengthening the local trading community, particularly small traders and MSMEs that form an important part of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy.
He stressed that the reforms must translate into tangible relief for businesses at the ground level while retaining legitimate public safety and regulatory safeguards.
KTMF urged the concerned departments to implement the provisions of the legislation in their true spirit, with clear guidelines, effective monitoring and accountability at every level.
The Federation also emphasised that traders should not be subjected to unnecessary harassment, repetitive inspections or avoidable bureaucratic delays.
KTMF expressed hope that the reform initiative would encourage entrepreneurship, improve investor confidence, generate employment opportunities and strengthen the overall business environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
