New Delhi, Oct 13: India on Tuesday reiterated that the Union Territory of Ladakh was an integral and inalienable part of the country, asserting that no denial by China could change this position.
Responding to media queries over comments made by the Chinese side on Ladakh, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India’s position on the territory remained unchanged.
“It is reiterated that the UT of Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India. No amount of denial by the Chinese side can change this established fact,” Jaiswal said.
Clarifying the Union government’s recent announcement concerning 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh, the MEA spokesperson said the Ministry of Home Affairs’ press release was self-explanatory.
He said the 28 places and features had been identified with standardised names on the official map of the Survey of India in consultation with the Union Territory administration and local stakeholders.
According to Jaiswal, the exercise was aimed at facilitating the accurate identification of these places and improving public awareness about them.
The clarification comes amid differences between India and China over territorial claims and developments relating to Ladakh. India has consistently maintained that Ladakh is an integral part of the country.
