Sopore, Oct 4: A massive fire broke out at the Government Boys Middle School and the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Dangiwacha in the Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday afternoon, triggering panic among local residents and causing significant damage to the buildings and property.
The fire reportedly broke out at around 1 pm, following which flames and thick smoke were seen emanating from the premises. The incident prompted an immediate response from security forces, police, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, as well as local residents, who joined hands to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjoining structures.
Personnel of 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Fire and Emergency Services Department launched a coordinated firefighting operation. Local residents also assisted the teams during the operation, helping bring the rapidly spreading flames under control.
During the firefighting operation, the fire tender exhausted its water supply. In a prompt response, personnel of 32 RR arranged additional water through Army water bowsers, enabling the firefighting team to continue operations without interruption. The timely intervention helped contain the blaze and prevented the fire from causing further damage to nearby structures.
The incident caused concern among residents, particularly as the fire broke out in an educational institution and government office complex. The extent of damage to school infrastructure, office records, furniture and other government property is yet to be fully assessed.
Meanwhile, Naib Tehsildar Dangiwacha and SHO Dangiwacha also reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The authorities monitored the firefighting operation and assessed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, the exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. The concerned authorities are expected to ascertain the cause and assess the overall loss following a detailed inspection of the affected premises.
