Ramban, Oct 19: A 12-year-old boy died after a mini load carrier skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Barmuji in the Neel area of Tehsil Ramsu in Ramban district on Monday evening.
According to sources, the accident involved a Tata Mobile load carrier bearing registration number JK19A-1612.
The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge, leaving the minor boy critically injured.
The injured boy was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Banihal, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified as Rivzan Ahmed Bhat, 12, son of Abdul Rasheed Bhat and a resident of Gogwani village in the Neel area. Police took custody of the body and handed it over to the bereaved family after completing the requisite medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, sources said that the driver allegedly fled the scene following the accident. Further details regarding the circumstances of the incident and the whereabouts of the driver were awaited.
The tragic incident has plunged Gogwani and the adjoining Neel area into mourning, with residents expressing grief over the untimely death of the young boy.
