The bus has been funded under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and was handed over to the college authorities by MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed in the presence of a team from the MP’s office, including former BDC Chairman Langate Showkat Hassan Pandit, former Municipal Committee Langate Chairman Advocate Shahnawaz Abdullah and other dignitaries. Principal GDC Handwara Professor Aijaz Hussain Kanth was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sheikh Khursheed said Er Rashid had promised to provide a bus for GDC Handwara during his visit last year. “The commitment stands fulfilled today and hopefully it can turn out to be beneficial for college students,” he added.

“During his two tenures as MLA Langate, Er Rashid consistently prioritised education and student welfare by providing free coaching to scores of students in Langate constituency,” he said.

MLA Khursheed also thanked the district administration and college authorities for facilitating the procurement of the vehicle and supporting the inauguration process.

Asked about MPLADS funds, he said the funds were being recommended equitably across all 18 Assembly constituencies falling under the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, with the objective of addressing local needs and ensuring balanced development.

Students expressed gratitude to Er Rashid for fulfilling his commitment, saying the bus would ease their daily commute. “The facility would certainly improve student safety and reduce travel time from main town Handwara to our college. Although the bus was brought to the campus some 20 days ago, the inauguration was held today,” a female student told the media.

Principal Professor Aijaz Hussain Kanth and the college staff also appreciated the initiative, stating that improved transportation facilities would benefit students and contribute to a better academic environment.
