Srinagar, Sep 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested ten drug peddlers along with substantial quantities of contraband, including charas, heroin-like substance, brown sugar and crushed bhang, in multiple operations across Kashmir.
The police spokesperson said that in Anantnag, Police arrested two persons during night patrolling in the Sallar area. A police party from Police Station Srigufwara apprehended Farhan Ahmad Shah son of Ab Rashid Shah and Ayaz Ahmad Shah son of Ab Rashid Shah, both residents of Sallar Sheikhpora. During their search, 2.2 kg of contraband comprising charas powder and charas sticks was recovered. In this connection, FIR No. 88/2026 was registered at Police Station Srigufwara and investigation was initiated.
In another incident in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking on the Verinag–Dooru road, apprehended Shabir Ahmad Kalim son of Abdul Rahman Kalim resident of Malikpora Verinag. During search, 11.2 grams of brown sugar was recovered. Accordingly, FIR No. 150/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered at Police Station Dooru and further investigation is underway.
In Bandipora, Police registered two separate NDPS cases during naka checking at Zadoo, Ajas, and arrested two persons. In the first case, Mohd Asrar Tantray son of Mohd Maqbool Tantray resident of Patipora, Saloora, Ganderbal, travelling from Ganderbal towards Bandipora, was intercepted. During the search of his motorcycle bearing registration No. JK01AF-9058, a charas-like substance, solid in nature, along with psychotropic tablets, was allegedly recovered. FIR No. 219/2026 was registered at Police Station Sumbal. In the second case, Javaid Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Nabi Rather resident of New Colony, Ajas, travelling from Ajas towards SK Payeen, was intercepted at the same naka. A charas-like substance, solid in nature, was allegedly recovered from his possession. FIR No. 221/2026 was registered at Police Station Sumbal. Further investigation in both cases is underway.
In Kulgam, Police arrested three persons in two separate incidents during dynamic naka checking on the National Highway at Qazigund and recovered a total of 64 grams of heroin-like substance. In the first incident, an Innova vehicle bearing registration No. JK03M-3700 was intercepted near Shampora Bridge, leading to the recovery of 20 grams of heroin-like substance from the armrest storage box. The driver was identified as Jamsheed Ahmad Dar son of Gh. Ahmad Dar resident of Meej, Pampore.
In the second incident, an i20 vehicle bearing registration No. JK01AK-4045 was intercepted near Dalwach Crossing. The vehicle was being driven by Shah Rukh son of Syed Iftikar Qureshi resident of Karan Nagar, accompanied by Nadeem Qazi son of Late Qazi Gh. Rasool resident of Rawalpora. During checking, 44 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. FIR Nos. 234/2026 and 235/2026 were registered and investigations have been taken up.
In a separate major recovery in Anantnag, Police seized 75 kg of crushed bhang from two residential premises at Sonch Brah. Acting on reliable information, Police Station Mattan registered FIR Nos. 108/2026 and 109/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act against Mudasir Ahmad Khan son of Mohd. Haneef Khan and Abdul Qayoom Khan son of Saifullah Khan, both residents of Sonch Brah. After obtaining requisite search orders from the competent authority, Police conducted searches of their respective residential premises and recovered 31.2 kg of crushed bhang from the house of Mudasir Ahmad Khan and 43.8 kg from the house of Abdul Qayoom Khan, totalling 75 kg. Both accused persons were arrested and the contraband was seized in accordance with law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and other linkages involved, spokesperson said.
Police reiterated its commitment to sustained and stringent action against the possession, transportation, sale and trafficking of narcotic substances. They urged general public to remain vigilant and share credible information regarding drug-related activities with the Police.
