Handwara, Sep 3: Advocates from the Rajwar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday held a peaceful protest at Mian Chowk Handwara against the poor condition of the Handwara-Rajwar road, demanding immediate macadamization of the road.
The protesters said that residents of dozens of villages in Upper and Lower Rajwar continue to face difficulties due to the deteriorating road, despite repeated assurances and claims of progress by the authorities. “People have been suffering for years because of the poor road condition. We need concrete action on the ground, not just assurances and announcements,” said Advocate Imran of Rajpora Rajwar.
“We want permanent macadamization of the road, which unfortunately has not been carried out for the last twelve years, due to which people from dozens of villages continue to suffer,” said another protesting advocate of the area.
The advocates urged the concerned authorities to expedite repair and improvement work on the road to provide safe and reliable connectivity to the residents of Rajwar.
Meanwhile, an official of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division Handwara told Greater Kashmir that a tender worth Rs 49 lakh has recently been allotted to a contractor to carry out the necessary repairs until a permanent solution is made. He said that repair work on the road will be carried out soon.
