Srinagar, Oct 27: Priyanshu Moliya struck an unbeaten triple century to power Baroda to a mammoth 616 all out on day 2 against Jammu and Kashmir in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group match at the Reliance Cricket Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Baroda dominated the proceedings, piling up a formidable total in their first innings, with Moliya leading the charge through a marathon knock of 321 not out off 492 deliveries. His innings was studded with 36 fours and a six, as he batted J&K’s bowling attack into submission.
Moliya found valuable support from Mahesh Pithiya, who scored a patient 102 off 214 balls, helping Baroda consolidate their position after the top order had provided a steady start. Deepak Hooda contributed 45, while Rasikh Dar added a useful 47 to further strengthen Baroda’s commanding total.
Moliya’s monumental innings stood out in a batting display that saw Baroda bat for 169 overs. The Baroda’s batters made the most of the opportunity, putting the J&K bowlers under sustained pressure and leaving the visitors with a daunting task in the match.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Sahil Lotra was the most successful bowler, claiming four wickets for 160 runs from 39 overs. Umar Nazir and Vanshaj Sharma picked up two wickets each, while Rohit Sharma and Sunil Kumar accounted for one wicket apiece.
Despite the efforts of the J&K bowlers, Baroda’s lower order and Moliya’s prolonged stay at the crease ensured the hosts crossed the 600-run mark before being bowled out.
Jammu and Kashmir began their reply late in the day 2 and reached six without loss at stumps, with the openers negotiating the brief period at the crease without losing a wicket.
With Baroda having amassed 616 runs, J&K face a challenging task in their first innings. The visitors will need a substantial batting effort to close the gap and remain competitive in the contest, with the pressure firmly on their top order when play resumes on Wednesday.
