Hotel owners said recurring power cuts were affecting essential services such as heating, lighting, kitchen operations and water supply, particularly as preparations were underway for the approaching sub-zero winter season.

They said reliable electricity was critical for hotels catering to tourists around the clock and that continued disruptions could affect the resort’s tourism-dependent businesses.

President Beopar Mandal SonamargFurqan Ahmad has written to the Superintendent Engineer, KPDCL Ganderbal, seeking restoration of uninterrupted power supply to hotels in the resort.

“I am writing on behalf of hoteliers located in Sonamarg, District Ganderbal, to request the restoration of uninterrupted 24×7 electricity supply to our establishments,” the letter reads.

It said continuous electricity was essential for maintaining “basic services such as lighting, heating/cooling, kitchen operations, water supply, and overall guest safety and comfort.”

“The current interruptions/restricted supply are causing significant inconvenience to our guests and negatively impacting our business operations and reputation,” the letter said.

The hoteliers also said they had cleared all dues related to electricity consumption and were complying with the regulations set by the department.

They urged KPDCL to restore regular supply at the earliest and ensure uninterrupted power to the resort.

“Sonamarg is one of Jammu & Kashmir’s flagship tourist destinations, yet key commercial hubs face unnecessary power woes,” Ahmad said.

“Uninterrupted 24×7 power isn’t a luxury-it is a basic requirement to sustain tourism, protect local livelihoods, and ensure guests leave with a positive impression of the valley,” he said.
