Sopore, Oct 21: The Sopore Bypass Bridge will see a temporary closure of one lane for 10 days, beginning October 22, to facilitate repair work, following an order issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla.
According to the official order, permission has been granted for the temporary closure of one lane of the bridge at kilometre 1.954 on the Sopore Bypass Road. The repair work is scheduled to continue from October 22 to October 31, 2026.
The order was issued in response to a request from the Officer Commanding, EE (Civil), 56 RCC (GREF), seeking permission to carry out the necessary repairs.
In view of the proposed closure, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sopore, have been directed to formulate an appropriate traffic management plan in consultation with the concerned departments and stakeholders. The plan is intended to ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimise inconvenience to commuters during the repair period.
Particular emphasis has been laid on consulting members of the Fruit Growers Association, Sopore, given the importance of the town’s fruit trade and the ongoing apple season. Sopore Fruit Mandi, one of the region’s major fruit trading centres, witnesses substantial movement of trucks and other vehicles carrying fresh produce to markets across the country.
Effective traffic management is therefore particularly important for fruit growers, transporters, traders and other road users. Any disruption in the movement of fruit-laden vehicles could create logistical challenges during the peak trading period, making timely planning and coordination essential.
The proposed traffic plan is expected to consider the needs of local residents, daily commuters, commercial vehicles and apple transporters to maintain orderly traffic movement while repairs are underway.
Commuters and transporters have been advised to follow official traffic advisories, adhere to the directions of traffic personnel and cooperate with the authorities throughout the closure period.
The repair work is aimed at addressing the bridge’s maintenance requirements, with both lanes expected to reopen after the necessary work is completed.
