Srinagar, Oct 28: The proposed Rs 1,677-crore expansion of Srinagar International Airport is awaiting the appointment of a project management consultant (PMC), with bids scheduled to open on November 18, while the new terminal project at Jammu Airport has achieved around 70 per cent physical progress.

According to official details, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a second tender for appointing a PMC for Srinagar Airport’s new integrated terminal building and allied works after cancelling the earlier tender on August 17 due to an insufficient number of bids.

The revised tender, published on August 18, provides for submission of bids until November 12, with opening scheduled for November 18, according to the latest tender schedule.

The Srinagar expansion project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in February 2026. It envisages a new terminal complex spread over 71,500 square metres, with an annual passenger-handling capacity of 10 million and the ability to handle 2,900 passengers during peak hours.

The project also includes apron expansion, additional aircraft parking facilities and a multi-level parking structure with space for 1,000 vehicles. Allied infrastructure, including residential quarters for Airports Authority of India staff and barracks for Central Industrial Security Force personnel, is also planned.

The expansion is aimed at addressing capacity constraints at Srinagar Airport, which has witnessed substantial passenger traffic in recent years. According to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India’s September 2026 consultation paper, the airport handled 3.38 million passengers during the 2025–26 financial year.

The proposed terminal is expected to improve passenger movement, expand aircraft-handling capacity and provide modern airport facilities. However, the project remains at the consultancy procurement stage, and the latest tender schedule does not establish a confirmed date for the commencement of the main construction work.

Separately, the construction of residential quarters for AAI staff and CISF personnel has also faced delays over a height-related no-objection certificate from the Indian Air Force, according to the project details.

Meanwhile, Jammu Airport’s new terminal project has achieved approximately 70 percent physical progress and is targeted for completion by November 2026.

During a media delegation’s visit on September 22, AAI Jammu Airport Director Devender Yadav said construction was progressing according to schedule.

The Jammu project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 864 crore, will have a terminal area of 42,000 square metres, in addition to a 14,500-square-metre basement. Its annual passenger-handling capacity is expected to increase from 2.6 million to 4.5 million, while peak-hour capacity will rise from 1,080 to 2,000 passengers.

The upgraded facility will include six aerobridges, 36 check-in counters, four baggage conveyor belts and parking for more than 500 vehicles.
